A few days ago a new project appeared on Lego Ideas, and instantly became my new favourite: Fossil Museum is the kind of Lego set I dream of; it's got dinosaurs, it's got a nicely thought-out design, and would slot neatly into wider Lego world. I love dinosaurs, and fossil skeleton displays are at the heart of that love; the wonder and the majesty of a fully assembled dinosaur is just spectacular; you don't need fancy interactive exhibitions and overly designed displays to appreciate the beauty of these amazing animals.
And it seems I'm far from the only one, the project has had a remarkable rush of supports in just its first few days. The creator, whatpumpkin, had included a range of dinosaurs, so there's something for all dinosaur tastes: Stegosaurus, Apatosaurus, Spinosaurus, two Deinonychus, and a Pteranodon. If you haven't already, please add your support, and let's get this great design made into a real set.
Dinosaurs have come up in several nice Lego Ideas projects (indeed I have thoughts on a making a couple myself), continue after the jump for a look at some other great dinosaur projects you should support!
Continuing on the museum angle, one of my very favourite places in the entire world has been proposed as a modular building style set, London's Natural History Museum. TJSpencer1's project is based on the entrance hall of the museum, encapsulating both the beautiful architecture of the building, and iconic display of Dippy the Diplodocus. Other significant features of the hall are also there' the status of Darwin, and the huge redwood cross-section. The multi-level model also features other displays, on human evolution, insects, mammals, and geology, plus a science lab and study space to reflect the ongoing work of the museum, and, of course, a gift shop. This would be a huge set for Ideas, but if it made it, it would sure be the best modular building there has ever been, and if it were done with the blessing of the museum, hopefully sales would also support that wonderful institution too! Support!
At a less grand scale, there are some other skeleton projects. There's a larger scale Velociraptor, by Bangoo.
A Velociraptor is also included in a pretty nifty three-in-one set proposal. Jazlecraz originally proposed a T-Rex skeleton, but also used most of the same parts to make the Raptor and a Triceratops, which would make a cracking Creator set don't you think?
Finally, if you prefer a bit of meat on your bones, Senteosan has two projects waiting for you, beautiful sculptural interpretations of Stegosaurus and Tyrannosaurus:
Here are videos showing both models from all angles:
Lego Ideas have of course just recently released their first dinosaur set, in the form of the Research Institute. If you want more, make sure you support all these projects!
